A noticeable part of the old Kolomna – Posad – begins immediately outside the walls of the Kremlin. Before heading out to explore all sorts of popular museums, take a sedate stroll through the town’s streets. It will be possible to feed on the “Russian spirit” here without much difficulty. Cozy houses decorated with carved platbands and merchant estates await you at every step.
The main holy places of Kolomensky Posad are the Church of St. Nicholas-on-Posad and the Church of the Epiphany-in-Gonchary. The first one is built in the style of Moscow patterns, and it can rightly be called the most beautiful in Kolomna. The second is the only church in the city that has never closed its doors and has preserved ancient murals and an iconostasis.
